Express Entry - Federal Skilled Worker Program


Federal skilled worker program focuses on attracting young skilled workers to Canada who would in length contribute to the economic development in the country. The immigrants are selected for permanent residency based on their ability to become economically established in Canada. You can apply for the FSWP program irrespective of you residing anywhere across the globe. All global applications are considered under the FSWP program.

The federal skilled workers applications are processed through the Express Entry Immigration selection system. The Express Entry Eligibility is evaluated through a point system under the Comprehensive Ranking System. CRS system is a tool to calculate the points you score on factors like age, education, language proficiency etc.to know your final score before applying for PR Immigration.

The Minimal Requirements to apply for FSWP program are :

Skilled work experience :

  • You should have at least one year of continuous full-time or equal amount of part time experience in the same job.  The number of hours to be fulfilled in full time and part time would be
    • Full Time : 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • Part Time : 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours) OR 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than one job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
  • Any volunteer work or unpaid internships would not be counted.
  • Your job work should be equal to the description of skill levels in Canada which are classified under the National Occupational Classification and the skill levels are categorized as
      • Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
      • Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
      • Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)

Language ability :

You must meet the minimum language level of (CLB) Canadian language benchmark which is level CLB 7.

You must show that you meet the requirement of English or French language by submitting the test results. Higher the bands you score in all the four modules of your test results of IELTS, TEF and CELPIP higher the points would you score on your CRS calculator. The test results should not be more than 2 years old on the day you apply for FSW under Express Entry.

Education :

If you have studied in Canada you need a diploma, degree or certificate from a Canadian secondary (high school) or post secondary school. If you have a foreign education you must have the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from a approved agency which shows equivalency to a completed degree,diploma or certificate from a Canadian secondary (high) school or post secondary school.

Under the FSWP program there are also 6 selection factors which are :

  • Your skills in English and/or French (Canada’s two official languages),
  • Your education,
  • Your work experience,
  • Your age,
  • Whether you have a valid job offer, and,
  • Your adaptability (how well you are likely to settle here).

These 6 factors carry 67 points which you can earn out of 100 bases the strength of your profile and the combination of these factors along with the comprehensive ranking system would decide your chances of getting invitation to apply under the FSWP program.

Proof of funds :

You must show that you have enough amount of funds to support yourself and your family when you arrive in Canada for the initial 6 months. The table shows the funds required in Canadian dollars as per the family size which you need to have once you land in Canada.
