Express Entry - Canadian Experience Class Program



Canadian Experience Class Program is devised for those foreign workers who are in Canada on a Temporary basis to work and would like to permanently settle in Canada. To apply Under CEC you should be staying in Canada on any legal basis except on Visitor Visa.

The CEC applications are processed under Express Entry where in the applicants can remain in Canada through out the application process as long as they maintain their legal status.Those who are no longer in Canada can still apply for CEC Program provided they have applied for the same within 3 years of leaving their job.

CEC is also becoming a popular option for those international students who are staying in Canada on the basis of their Post Graduation work permits and have gained one year of work experience in any skilled,professional or technical field. CEC immigration program is processed under the express entry system. The Express Entry Eligibility is evaluated through a point system under the Comprehensive Ranking System. CRS system is a tool to calculate the points you score on factors like age, education, language proficiency etc.to know your final score before applying for PR Immigration.

The Minimum Requirement to be met to apply for the CEC program are :

  • You need to have at least 12 months of full time or equal amount of part time skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply.
    • Full Time : 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • Part Time : 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours) OR 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than one job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
  • You need to have proper authorization for the work experience that you have gained.
  • You plan to live outside of Quebec.
  • Self employment or work experience gained while you were full time student is not considered under this program.
  • You need to have skilled work experience in Canada within 3 years of applying as per the levels of National Occupation Classification which are :
      • Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
      • Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
      • Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
    If your experience is not as per the skill levels of NOC your application will not be accepted.
  • The language ability as per skill levels is NOC 0 or A job, the minimum level is CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French).NOC B job, the minimum level is CLB 5 (English) or NCLC 5 (French).
  • Education requirement is not mandatory but you can earn additional points by either having a Canadian education or by acquiring (ECA) Educational Credential Assessment in case of foreign education.
  • The above mentioned minimal requirement of the program alogwith the CRS points that you score would decide the chances of getting the Invitation to Apply under CEC program.
